Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a hard 42-28 fall against the Hawks on Friday.
Despite the loss, Wiregrass Ranch still got an impressive performance from Luke Knight, who threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Wilson ii, who gained 66 total yards and a touchdown.
Lake Minneola's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dane Thompkins led the charge by rushing for 206 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Thompkins is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Jackson Hughes was another key player, having thrown for 294 yards and four touchdowns.
Wiregrass Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Lake Minneola, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.
Wiregrass Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lake Minneola will square off against Lakeland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lakeland is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
