The LeRoy Panthers will face off against the Heyworth Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. LeRoy's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Heyworth's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
LeRoy fell victim to Eureka and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hornets. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Heyworth). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Fieldcrest a 17-0 shutout on Friday. The Hornets have beaten the Knights the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.
Gabby Dow was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Heyworth got a massive performance out of Natalie Kopp, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Kopp has posted over her last eight matches. Another player making a difference was Sidney Ditchen, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Heyworth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Heyworth's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-11. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for LeRoy, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-4.
LeRoy suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Heyworth in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Panthers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
