After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Arvada West, the Columbine Rebels were happy to have found some success on Friday. They walked away with a 65-54 victory over Chatfield. That 11 point margin sets a new team best for Columbine this season.
Columbine found their leader in underclassman Cash Boykin, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter McCoy, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Chatfield still got an impressive performance from Merek Chuita, who scored 14 points. Drew Rohlman was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Columbine's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-15. As for Chatfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
Columbine will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Valor Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Rebels in Colorado (the Eagles are ranked third, while the Rebels are ranked 214th). Chatfield will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th.
