Fletcher is 0-3 against St. Johns Country Day since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Fletcher Senators will head out on the road to square off against the St. Johns Country Day Spartans at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
After only 15 points in their last matchup, Fletcher made sure to put some points up on the board against Westside on Thursday. Fletcher breezed by Westside at home to the tune of 58-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Fletcher has posted since November 29, 2023.
Among those leading the charge was Mattie Gilliam, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brylee Rains, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, St. Johns Country Day scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 90-19 victory over Duval Charter at home. The victory was familiar territory for St. Johns Country Day who now have five in a row.
It was another big night for Mary Kate Kent, who shot 5-for-14 from long range and dropped a double-double on 46 points and 16 steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for 18 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Mejias, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
Fletcher pushed their record up to 9-7 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31 points. As for St. Johns Country Day, their win bumped their record up to 16-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Fletcher have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 17.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. Johns Country Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Fletcher took a serious blow against St. Johns Country Day in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 64-26. Thankfully for Fletcher, Taliah Scott (who went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 40 points and 3 assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
