Teton is 0-10 against Sugar-Salem since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Teton Timberwolves are on the road again and play against the Sugar-Salem Diggers at 4:00 p.m. on November 18th. Teton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Sugar-Salem likes a good challenge.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Teton had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They walked away with a 49-42 victory over Homedale. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Teton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Thomas Heuseveldt, who rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also picked up 78 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Nelson, who rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Sugar-Salem put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Weiser 25-7. Given Sugar-Salem's advantage in MaxPreps' Idaho football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Weiser is ranked 26th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sugar-Salem's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Carson Harris, who rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns, and Tate Cutler, who gained 101 total yards and two touchdowns. Harris has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Sugar-Salem's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Ryan Bingham was the leader with two sacks.
Teton's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-6 West Jefferson and 3-7 American Falls (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.6% over those games). As for Sugar-Salem, their victory bumped their record up to 10-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Teton has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 287 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Sugar-Salem, though, as they've been averaging only 147.2 per game. How will Sugar-Salem fare against such a dominant passing game? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Teton was dealt a bruising 41-14 defeat at the hands of Sugar-Salem when the teams last played back in October. Can Teton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
