The Ponte Vedra Sharks will face off against the St. Joseph Academy Flashes at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Ponte Vedra: 3.1, St. Joseph Academy: 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
St. Joseph Academy will be up against a hot Ponte Vedra squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Ponte Vedra's pitcher stepped up to hand Beachside a 1-0 shutout on Friday. The one-run effort marked the Sharks' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Not much got past Storm Lickliter, who gave up just a hit to keep Beachside off the board. That's the fewest hits Lickliter has allowed since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Ponte Vedra's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jack Brady, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Academy gave up the first runs last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over Suwannee. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Flashes.
St. Joseph Academy also got a great performance from Bodie Figeon as he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dayton Taylor, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Connor Lewis, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
St. Joseph Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Ponte Vedra, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ponte Vedra has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Ponte Vedra came up short against St. Joseph Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, falling 4-0. Can Ponte Vedra avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
