Baseball Recap: Broaddus Picks Up Second Consecutive Win

Broaddus won against Martinsville on Tuesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Bulldogs beat the Pirates by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-2. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by ten runs or more this season.

Aiden Sowell made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has become a key player for Broaddus: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 4-7-1 otherwise. Sowell was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Caysin Hamilton and Ransom Sowell did most of the damage at the plate: Hamilton went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Ransom went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. With that strong performance, Hamilton is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Greyson Warden was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Broaddus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They are 6-2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Broaddus and bumps their season record up to 7-8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Martinsville, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Coming up, Broaddus will face off against Chester at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Yellowjackets will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. Martinsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
