Basketball Recap: Northport Piles Up the Points Against Republic

Northport waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They claimed a resounding 74-38 victory over the Republic Tigers. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 26 points or more this season.

Despite the loss, Republic still got an impressive performance from Landon Short, who dropped a triple-double on 23 points, ten boards, and ten blocks. That was a full 60.5% of Republic's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Cameron Harris was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Northport is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.0 points per game. As for Republic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.

Northport won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Curlew at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Northport is facing Curlew at the right time seeing as Curlew is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Republic, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Inchelium at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Inchelium knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Republic likes a good challenge.
