West Florence and Hartsville are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The West Florence Knights will be taking part in a tournament against the Hartsville Red Foxes at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
West Florence's tournament run continued when they took on East Clarendon on Tuesday. West Florence was the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over East Clarendon. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.
Matthew Brown spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Carson Haynes was a standout: he scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Avery Weaver was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
West Florence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, while Hartsville put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Carolina Forest. Hartsville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over Carolina Forest.
Luke Holloman looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Hartsville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Oliver, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
West Florence's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Hartsville, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
West Florence came out on top in a nail-biter against Hartsville when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Will West Florence repeat their success, or does Hartsville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
