Softball Recap: Wilmington Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

Wilmington won the last time they faced Streator and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Wildcats blew past the Bulldogs 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 14 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Taryn Gilbert made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Wilmington let Keeley Walsh and Taylor Stefancic run wild. Walsh went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Stefancic went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That triple was Walsh's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Southall, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Wilmington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Wilmington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Streator, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-19.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wilmington will welcome Joliet Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Streator, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Normal Community at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
