The Northridge Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Carroll Chargers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Northridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Plymouth hit Northridge with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Raiders fell just short of the Pilgrims/Rockies by a score of 9-8. The Raiders' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Rachel Humbarger made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Willow Staley, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Carroll got the win against Adams Central on Friday by a conclusive 15-4. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Emilia Garcia made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Alexis Pee was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Taylor Danley was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Carroll always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Adams Central only posted an OBP of .321.
Carroll has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Northridge, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.
Both Northridge and Carroll just can't seem to miss. The Raiders have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Carroll struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northridge might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Carroll when the teams last played back in April. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
