Avon Lake extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping their season record up to 7-12 in the process. They had just enough and edged out the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs 18-16. The Shoremen's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Erin Dean was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Sammy Cracas and Carmen McMinn did most of the damage at the plate: Cracas went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI, while McMinn got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four RBI gave Cracas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Briana Webster, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and one RBI.
Avon Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
As for Olmsted Falls, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games.
Like Avon Lake, Olmsted Falls also got a great game from a two-way player: MOLLY SHEEHAN. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. SHEEHAN has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, TAYLOR VAVRO and BROOKE LARGENT stepped up to the plate in a big way. VAVRO fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-4, while LARGENT got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and one triple. Those home runs were VAVRO's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of HAILEY KLAMUT, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Avon Lake and Olmsted Falls are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Shoremen will head out on the road to square off against Aurora at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Greenmen's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Avon Lake's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Olmsted Falls, they will face off against Wadsworth at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
