AAAA Region 3A recap Oct. 9, 2012
Liberty County extended the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 3A this week by beating Glenn Hills, 37-14. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
South Effingham took down Cross Creek 53-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Joshua Mercer ran for 200 yards and caught one passes for three yards in the win.
The Mustangs' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brandon James threw for 17 and one touchdown and Tyler Hagan had 14 yards receiving. Ryan McClendon helped South Effingham's passing attack out by catching one ball for 11 yards.
Liberty County's JJ Grant and Jeremy Caldwell-Fabregas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Grant has thrown for 326 yards this season, while Caldwell-Fabregas, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 13 catches for 362 yards. Mercer from South Effingham leads the league in rushing with 713 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Statesboro takes on second place Liberty County. Last week, Statesboro topped Swainsboro, while the Panthers defeated the Spartans.

The Mustangs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,880 from 5,346. The advance stemmed from a 53-6 victory over the Razorbacks last week.
