The Sayville Golden Flashes had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Mount Sinai 68-66. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Mount Sinai lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dominic Pennzello, who scored 21 points. The contest was Pennzello's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Kolsch, who scored eight points along with ten assists and seven rebounds.
Sayville's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-0. As for Mount Sinai, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.
Sayville will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Mount Sinai at 6:15 p.m. on February 1st. As for Mount Sinai, they will head out on the road to face off against Wyandanch at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
