The Shelbyville Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the San Augustine Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shelbyville is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Even though Grapeland scored an imposing 36 points on Thursday, Shelbyville still came out on top. Shelbyville breezed by Grapeland at home to the tune of 64-36. The result was nothing new for Shelbyville, who have now won four contests by 28 points or more so far this season.
Shelbyville relied on the efforts of Franny Buckley, who rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and Dj Barnes, who rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, San Augustine's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They slipped by Joaquin 49-48. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
San Augustine found their leader in underclassman Tymorian Cartwright, who rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 passes. Cartwright's longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards. Jerkeldrick Malone also helped out with an impressive 112 receiving yards.
Their wins bumped Shelbyville to 4-2 and San Augustine to 3-4.
Shelbyville was able to grind out a solid victory over San Augustine in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, winning 57-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Shelbyville since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
