The Calaveras Red Hawks will head out on the road to challenge the Sonora Wildcats at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Calaveras focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
Last Friday, Calaveras was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 41-40 to Amador.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Corbin Curran, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Mason Moser was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Sonora entered their tilt with Argonaut with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Sonora strolled past Argonaut with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 56-41.
Jonathan Curran continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Roger Edwards, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Calaveras' defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Sonora, their victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-10.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Calaveras have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6 threes per game. It's a different story for Sonora, though, as they've been averaging only 8 threes per game. Given Calaveras' sizeable advantage in that area, Sonora will need to find a way to close that gap.
Calaveras came up short against Sonora in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 59-46. Can Calaveras avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
