The Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets will face off against the Louisburg Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Roanoke Rapids has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Louisburg will arrive with eight straight wins.
Roanoke Rapids lost 47-21 to Nash Central on Friday.
Although Roanoke Rapids took the loss, they still got scores from Bobby Hawkins Jr, Joe Huss, and Quentez Richardson.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Louisburg). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat American Leadership Academy-Johnston 65-32. Considering the Warriors have won five games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Louisburg had a senior duo take command as Mikah Mcknight rushed for 234 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 14.6 yards per carry and Dondre Allen rushed for 239 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries. With that strong performance, Mcknight is now averaging an impressive 101.1 rushing yards per game.
Louisburg was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 481 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 151 rushing yards in nine consecutive contests dating back to last season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Louisburg's defensive line and their three sacks. Chance Roberson was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last 14 games he's played dating back to last season.
Louisburg's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Roanoke Rapids, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Roanoke Rapids and Louisburg were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, but Roanoke Rapids came up empty-handed after a 28-27 loss. Thankfully for the Yellowjackets, Shamir Sheppard (who rushed for 164 yards and two TDs while picking up 7.5 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
