The Irwin County Indians have not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They came out on top against Pelham by a score of 56-46 on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Irwin County also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Irwin County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sam Guy led the charge by scoring seven points along with 14 rebounds and five assists. Guy hasn't dropped below two blocks for 15 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Martin, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Irwin County's victory bumped their record up to 5-15. As for Pelham, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Irwin County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Coffee presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Indians in Georgia (the Trojans are ranked 238th, while the Indians are ranked 505th). As for Pelham, they will be playing at home against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
