The Wheatland-Chili Wildcats came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Byron-Bergen with points to spare, taking the game 61-45. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Wheatland-Chili also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Wheatland-Chili got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Leighton Williams out in front who scored 24 points. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Wheatland-Chili's points. Another player making a difference was Jaden Schwenebraten, who scored 20 points.
Wheatland-Chili's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Byron-Bergen, their loss ended a 11-game streak of away wins and brought them to 2-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheatland-Chili will challenge Attica at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Attica and Wheatland-Chili are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Byron-Bergen's road trip will continue as they head out to face Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd.
