The Wood River Eagles lost against the Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Wood River lost to Grand Island Central Catholic at home by a decisive 60-46 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wood River in their matchups with Grand Island Central Catholic: they've now lost four in a row.
Wood River lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Macie Peters, who scored 17 points. Peters hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Sidney Frear, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grand Island Central Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Avery O'Boyle, who scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points O'Boyle has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryndal Moody, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Wood River's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Grand Island Central Catholic, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.
Wood River will head out on the road to square off against Shelton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shelton's defense has only allowed 27.7 points per game this season, so Wood River's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Grand Island Central Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Adams Central on Saturday. Adams Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
