Football Recap: St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Takes Down St. Augustine in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They blew past the St. Augustine Saints 28-7. That looming 28-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.

A big part of St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's victory came down to the chemistry between Jaylen Stokes and his top target Demari Nunley. Stokes picked up 70 receiving yards and one touchdown while Nunley picked up 93 receiving yards and one touchdown. Nunley also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making four total tackles and defending four passes.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Marcus Ball and Trayce Mallard. What's more, Mallard also racked up six total tackles, the most he's had since back in October.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-9 record this season. As for St. Augustine, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-11.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy will welcome Sonora at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy comes in on five and Sonora on six. St. Augustine does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
