2A/1A Western Highlands recap Nov. 7, 2012
Owen moved up to 198 from 234 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A/1A Western Highlands. The Warhorses climbed the ranks as a result of topping Draughn 35-6.
Hendersonville extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating North Wilkes, 61-13. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Bearcats.
Hendersonville's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Grant Rivers threw for 122 yards and Dj Wilson had 64 yards receiving. On the ground Desean Jackson chipped in 182 yards. Michal Williams helped Hendersonville's passing attack out by catching two balls for 33 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Rivers and Jackson Bj Laughter's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Rivers leads the league in passing with 1609 yards, while Jackson has rushed for 1986 yards this season. Thomas Jefferson Academy's Efrim Borders leads the league in receiving yards with 756 on 54 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Madison takes on Owen. As it stands, the Patriots are in first, while Kenny Ford's team is in fifth.
