Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Lawrence Free State Firebirds, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a hard 21-7 fall against Manhattan on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 42 points in the game before, Lawrence Free State couldn't push the score so high this time.
When it comes to explaining why Lawrence Free State lost, one person who can't be blamed is Wesley Edison. Despite the final result, he rushed for 107 yards on only 14 carries, and also threw for 153 yards and a touchdown. Edison hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games.
Manhattan can attribute much of their success to Carter Aslin, who rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Manhattan also got a significant boost from Jaydin Hudley, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.
Lawrence Free State has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-3 record this season. As for Manhattan, their victory was their 14th straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 9-1.
Lawrence Free State does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Manhattan will stay at home for another week and welcome Derby at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Derby will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
