Principals recap October 8, 2013
Indian Valley added to the longest winning streak in Principals this week by beating Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, 21-13. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Braves.
Fairless moved up to 246 from 272 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Falcons climbed the ranks as a result of beating Tuscarawas Valley 56-33.
Fairless' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. hunter wells threw for 428 and 4 touchdowns and bryant wickham had 180 yards receiving. On the ground jeremy mahaffey chipped in 141 yards. austin weyandt helped Fairless' passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 91 yards.
He was 22-29 with 1 interception.
Jacob Ressler was a key player and the best on defense this week as Tuslaw fell to Triway. The 5-foot-10 senior racked up 1 sack.
Wickham was the best wideout in the league this week as Don Wilson's team defeated the Trojans. Wickham tallied 9 receptions for 180 yards. Weyandt helped Fairless' passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 91 yards.
The Falcons' wells and wickham have formed a dream team this season, leading Principals in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback wells has thrown for 1,960 yards this season, while wickham has 46 catches for 737 yards. Jake Davis from Indian Valley leads the league in rushing with 920 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Indian Valley takes on second place Manchester. Last week, Matt Lancaster's team topped the Royals, while Manchester bested Timken.
Entering into this week's contest against the Trojans, wells is short just 40 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
Davis of the the Braves is just 80 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 135 carries Davis has accumulated 920 yard this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Manchester takes on Indian Valley. Jim France's team has allowed 107 points this season, while the Braves have given up 99. The Panthers allowed 20 points last week as they bested Timken.
The Mustangs lost to the Titans 35-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Gage Lau threw for 127 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 11 yards in the loss.
