Given John Champe's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Patriots are ranked 346th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Park View saw an underclassman step up: Noah Calalang scored 31 points. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Nicola, who scored 17 points.
John Champe's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Park View, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Champe will take on the Spartans at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Park View, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
