The Fort Meade Miners will square off against the Mulberry Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fort Meade is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Fort Meade came into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of George Jenkins by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Miners in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.
Nakaia Pinkston spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Jy'Kia Faulk and Makayla Deleon stepped up to the plate in a big way. Faulk went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Deleon scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Deleon has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
Meanwhile, Mulberry beat Lakeland 5-1 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Dreadnaughts: they've now won six in a row.
Mulberry also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Laura Robinson gave up only one earned run on four hits. What's more, Robinson posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lorianys Castanon Cruz, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Jaylyn Oschmann was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Mulberry pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Meade, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
Mulberry's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fort Meade hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. It's a different story for Mulberry, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain Fort Meade's hitters?
Fort Meade was able to grind out a solid victory over Mulberry in their previous meeting back in February, winning 7-2. Will Fort Meade repeat their success, or does Mulberry has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
