Last Friday, St. John's/Tipton Catholic took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 72-27 victory over Stockton. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-11.
St. John's/Tipton Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Edward Horinek led the charge by scoring 17 points along with three steals. Horinek hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Winkler, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Pike Valley over Thunder Ridge in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Pike Valley blew Thunder Ridge out of the water with a 65-38 final score. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Pike Valley had established a 21 point advantage.
It was another big night for Andrew Cooper, who scored 31 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Gavin Massell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
St. John's/Tipton Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Pike Valley, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: St. John's/Tipton Catholic have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 40.5% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Pike Valley struggles in that department as they've made 43.1% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
