Basketball Recap: Manzano Piles Up the Points Against Socorro

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Manzano). They breezed by the Socorro Warriors to the tune of 74-31 on Friday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Monarchs with their most commanding win of the season.

Manzano's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zaria Gomez, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 34 points and four steals. Gomez's afternoon made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Daira Solis, who went 6 of 8 en route to 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Manzano smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Manzano is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Socorro, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Manzano wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-46 loss against Albuquerque Academy on the 11th. As for Socorro, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-17 defeat against St. Michael's on the 11th.
