The McDowell Titans came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Hibriten with points to spare, taking the game 72-55. Given McDowell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Hibriten is ranked 538th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McDowell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaurice Ledbetter led the charge by scoring 15 points. David Olivo was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
McDowell is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for Hibriten, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.
McDowell will be playing in front of their home fans against Asheville at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. McDowell has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 340 points over their last four matches. Hibriten is on the road again on Friday and plays Watauga at 8:00 p.m. on February 9th. The timing is sure in Watauga's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Hibriten has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
