5A Front Range recap September 24, 2013
Rocky Mountain scaled the state rankings by moving to 29 from 74 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Front Range. The Lobos were able to move up by defeating Douglas County 42-21.
Fossil Ridge fell to Eaglecrest 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Mitchell Salmela threw for 131 yards in the defeat.
Ayden Karraker put up the best numbers through the air as Horizon fell to Columbine. He finished with a total of 13 completions for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns. Karraker's favorite target this week was Dominick Castiglione, who caught 2 passes for 71 yards.
He went 13-30 with 2 interceptions.
RILEY NEAL was the best receiver in the league this week as Rocky Mountain defeated the Huskies. NEAL tallied 2 receptions for 76 yards.
JOSHUA RHEAD was the best running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 114 yards as Mark Brook's team beat Douglas County. Teammate TREVOR THOMAS added to the ground attack by rushing for 113 yards.
Leading 5A Front Range in both passing and receiving yards, Fossil Ridge's Salmela and Nick Kravec have proven to be a lethal combination. Salmela has thrown for 686 yards this season, while Kravec, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 23 catches for 333 yards. Gabe Gillespie from Mountain Range leads the league in rushing with 485 yards.
The Mustangs are currently in second, while the Hawks are in third.
Poudre led the league in scoring this week after putting up 44 points on Poudre.
