Greenwood has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. Having just played yesterday, they will head out on the road to face off against the Westside Rams at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Greenwood has not done well against the Red Raiders recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Greenwood enjoyed a cozy 47-31 win over the Red Raiders. Given Greenwood's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Red Raiders are ranked 84th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
In what's become a running theme this season, Westside gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 61-39 margin over Greenville. Winning may never get old, but Westside sure is getting used to it with their tenth in a row.
Westside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Khalia Hartwell, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahrianna Scott, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Greenwood pushed their record up to 20-4 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Westside, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season.
Greenwood ended up a good deal behind the Rams when the teams last played two weeks ago, losing 47-32. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Westside's Kiarra Gregory, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Now that Greenwood knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
