Softball Recap: Clear Lake Has No Trouble Against Lower Lake

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Upper Lake, Clear Lake was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Lower Lake Trojans. With that victory, the Cardinals brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Atiana Patino made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karsyn Greer, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Cruz, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Clear Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lower Lake only posted an OBP of .276.

The win got Clear Lake back to even at 8-8. As for Lower Lake, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-12.

Looking ahead, Clear Lake will challenge Middletown at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lower Lake, they will square off against Cloverdale at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
