Meanwhile, the struggle was real when Richland and Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg clashed, but the former ultimately edged out the latter 30-28.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 3-0. In their victory, Thompson relied heavily on senior Cadyn Schwabe, who passed for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns; a key strategy for Richland will lie in finding a way to minimize his impact.
