Even though the Mater Academy Charter Lions scored an imposing 62 points on Saturday, the Elite Academy Eagles still came out on top. Elite Academy took their matchup against Mater Academy Charter 70-62. Given Elite Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Mater Academy Charter is ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Elite Academy to victory were Ladainian Brooks and Kyler Theophile. Brooks dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds, while Theophile went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 3 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Theophile has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Justin Morgan, who scored nine points.
Elite Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Mater Academy Charter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-7.
Elite Academy will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against ABF Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for Mater Academy Charter, they will be playing at home against Westminster Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Westminster Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 379 points over their last six contests.
