The Montgomery Central Timberwolves will square off against the High Point Central Bison at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Montgomery Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Montgomery Central came up short against Anson and fell 9-4.
Ian Auman was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask High Point Central). Everything went their way against Ben L. Smith on Wednesday as they made off with an 18-7 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bison needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Bryant Almanzar was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Almanzar was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Zachariah Jernigan was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those runs were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Angel Leach, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
High Point Central's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Montgomery Central, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
High Point Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Montgomery Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. It's a different story for High Point Central, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Montgomery Central's sizable advantage in that area, the Bison will need to find a way to close that gap.
Montgomery Central got the 'W' when the teams last played on Tuesday against High Point Central by a conclusive 22-0 score. Will the Timberwolves repeat their success, or do the Bison have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
