The Airport Jets are taking a road trip to take on the Flat Rock Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Airport is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
If Airport beats Flat Rock with six runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Jets beat Jefferson on Wednesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-1.
Alayna McDaniel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Airport's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Zajac, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was Zajac's first of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Flat Rock, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over Ida on Saturday. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Bluestreaks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Emma Neace made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Giroux, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Ashlin Woodman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Flat Rock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Airport pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Flat Rock, their record now sits at 3-5.
Airport's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Jets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Flat Rock, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Airport continue to outrun the ball?
Airport couldn't quite get it done against Flat Rock in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Jets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
