It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Alexander had no problem doing just that on Monday. They never let the Lovejoy Wildcats get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 20 games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Ebbie Simmons made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in September.
In other batting news, Alexander got a massive performance out of Madison Smith, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Smith has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Townsend, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Alexander hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in eight consecutive contests.
Alexander has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 19 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Lovejoy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9.
