Ocracoke has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Washington Montessori Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 53-15, which was the final score in Ocracoke's tilt against Croatan on Saturday. Ocracoke has struggled against Croatan recently, as their match on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Ocracoke's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dibanhi Santiago, who scored 8 points, and Jami Martinez who scored 7 points. Santiago scored a full 53.3% of Ocracoke's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Washington Montessori, who are still winless after their fourth contest. They were beaten by Eastern Christian HomeSchool 69-9 on Tuesday. Washington Montessori was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-7.
The losses dropped Ocracoke to 0-6 and Croatan to 2-3.
Ocracoke took their victory against Washington Montessori when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 42-16. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ocracoke since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
