Baseball Recap: South Lake Wins Going Away Against East Ridge

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, South Lake brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. Everything went their way against the East Ridge Knights on Thursday as the South Lake Eagles made off with a 13-2 win. Considering the Eagles have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Z Siokis made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. South Lake is 5-1 when Siokis posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on J Brown, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of South Lake's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't). C Weaver was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-5.

South Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

With the victory, South Lake broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-7. As for East Ridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

South Lake will venture away from home to take on Umatilla at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Umatilla's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so South Lake's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for East Ridge, they will welcome Lake Minneola at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. East Ridge has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
