Given PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Warrensburg-Latham is ranked 465th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carson Arthalony was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jayce Privia, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Sangamon Valley/Tri-City suffered their biggest defeat since December 18, 2023 on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Pawnee/Calvary/Lutheran on the road and fell 56-18.
PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central pushed their record up to 22-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Sangamon Valley/Tri-City, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-17.
PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central strolled past Sangamon Valley/Tri-City in their previous matchup back in January of 2020 by a score of 60-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
