Rio Vista will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Esparto at 4:00 p.m. on January 22nd.
Rio Vista didn't get the result they wanted in their first game with Woodland Christian on Friday. They suffered a rough 4-1 defeat at the hands of Woodland Christian. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Rio Vista has suffered since November 21, 2023.
Their goal came courtesy of
Connor Wilcott, who's now up to two this season.
Meanwhile, Esparto waltzed into their match on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. Everything went their way against San Juan as Esparto made off with a 5-1 victory. Considering Esparto has won eight matchups by more than two goals this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Rio Vista bumped their record down to 1-9 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 0.4 goals per game. As for Esparto, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Rio Vista came up short against Esparto in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 6-4. Can Rio Vista avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
