Meanwhile, El Capitan came tearing into Thursday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Wildcats as they made off with a 24-8 win. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Danni Waters was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, El Capitan let Pauline Timpson and Naveya Estrada run wild. Timpson scored four runs while going 3-for-3, while Estrada went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Aiyanna Hammon was another key player, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 2-for-2.
El Capitan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .775. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive matches.
Page's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for El Capitan, their win bumped their record up to 11-8-1.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Page hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .407. However, it's not like El Capitan struggles in that department as they've averaged .422. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
