Los Padres recap Oct. 16, 2012
Derek Viles of Morro Bay ran for the longest rushing play in Los Padres this season against Santa Ynez last week. Viles' team topped the Pirates as he sprinted for 85 yards on the play and finished with 184 in all.
Morro Bay moved up to 378 from 412 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Jack Greer's team was able to make the jump by besting Santa Ynez 38-8.
Lompoc's dynamic duo of Tyler Ornelas and Rafael Arellano proved tough for Santa Maria to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Ornelas threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns and Arellano had 133 yards receiving.
Brock Dickey provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Josh McClurg's team lost to the Pirates. He completed 13 passes for 161 yards and also ran for 25 yards. Dickey's favorite target this week was Nick Neilsen, who caught four passes for 63 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Luke Shurtleff and Tommy Saenz Nipomo has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Shurtleff leads the league in passing with 1188 yards, while Saenz has rushed for 825 yards this season. Templeton's Tobey Isbell leads the league in receiving yards with 397 on 18 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Braves take on the Pirates. Lompoc is currently in first, while Santa Ynez is in fifth.
Andrew Jones' team extended the longest winning streak in Los Padres this week by beating the Saints, 49-0. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Braves.
