Broaddus extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-5. They lost 20-13 to the Zavalla Eagles. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Ransom Sowell made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Rayburn McClelland, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
As for Zavalla, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-7. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly seven runs.
On Zavalla's side, Lane Jarman and Maverick Renfro made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Jarman tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Renfro struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off nine hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. At the plate, Jarman earned one RBI, two runs, and three stolen bases, while Renfro went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Zavalla is undefeated when Jarman posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Zavalla got a massive performance out of Landon Curtis, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Curtis a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Garret D.Ykes, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Broaddus will welcome Martinsville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Bulldogs their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Zavalla, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Non Varsity Opponent at 4:30 p.m.
