Cathedral City moved up to 649 from 757 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Desert Valley. A 3-2 win over Twentynine Palms helped the Lions improve their standing.
Palm Desert was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. The Aztecs defeated San Bernardino 45-6 earlier in the week.
Cathedral City's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Davin Lile threw for 16 yards and James Rodriguez had 16 yards receiving. On the ground Orlando Wallace chipped in 47 yards.
Richard Lee's team's Lile and Rodriguez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Lile has thrown for 413 yards this season, while Rodriguez, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has eight catches for 148 yards. Indio's Keyvion Ross leads the league in rushing yards with 291.
A big matchup in Desert Valley this week will be when the Lions take on Palm Desert. At the moment, Cathedral City is in second, while Patrick Blackburn's team is in third.
The Lions and the Wildcats played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Lions eventually emerging with a 3-2 victory. Wallace in the win.
