The East Lake Eagles had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 36-26 victory over Seminole. Given East Lake's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Seminole is ranked 179th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East Lake found their leader in underclassman Avery Chatman, who scored 18 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Chatman has scored at least 25% of East Lake's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kierra Pitts, who scored 6 points.
Despite the loss, Seminole had strong showings from Laney Pearson, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists, and Devon Swartz, who scored 7 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 blocks. The match was Pearson's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
East Lake's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Seminole, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Lake's road trip will continue as they head out to face Tarpon Springs at 7:45 p.m. on December 5th. As for Seminole, they will challenge Palmetto at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
