The Cape Hatteras Hurricanes lost against the Pungo Christian Academy Raiders back in November of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Cape Hatteras lost to Pungo Christian Academy on the road by a decisive 48-30 margin. Cape Hatteras has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cape Hatteras lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kylie Philips, who scored 13 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Fairbanks, who dropped a double-double on ten rebounds and ten blocks.
Leading Pungo Christian Academy to victory were Allison Sawyer and Ginny Pugh. Sawyer dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Pugh dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Pugh pulled down eight or more rebounds. Alden Taylor was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Cape Hatteras' defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Pungo Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cape Hatteras will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Camden County at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Camden County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Pungo Christian Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 519th, while Pungo Christian Academy is ranked 253rd).
