Basketball Recap: Yorktown Extends Winning Streak to Five

Yorktown won against South County last Saturday with 59 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Yorktown Patriots came out on top in a nail-biter against the George C. Marshall Statesmen, sneaking past 59-57. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Statesmen are ranked 76th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win (which was Yorktown's fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points per game. As for George C. Marshall, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yorktown and Brunswick will round out the year against one another at at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Yorktown's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for George C. Marshall, they will square off against Oakdale at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. George C. Marshall has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
