The Lemon Bay Manta Rays fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Port Charlotte Pirates on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 64-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (59), Lemon Bay still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Lemon Bay lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cooper Benedict. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Benedict has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mayson Roberts, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Lemon Bay's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Port Charlotte, they pushed their record up to 12-9 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home.
Lemon Bay and LaBelle will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully LaBelle focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday. As for Port Charlotte, they will head out on the road to take on Venice at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Venice is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
