The Newport Wildcats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They came out on top against Spencer County by a score of 83-70. The success was a return to things as normal for Newport, who in their previous outing suffered a shocking 48-46 upset defeat to Great Crossing.
Newport got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jabari Covington out in front who scored 21 points. That's the first time this season that Covington scored 15 or more points. Tay Kinney was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists and three steals.
Newport's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Spencer County, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Newport won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Trinity at 4:30 p.m. on December 23rd. Trinity has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 516 points over their last seven contests. Spencer County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Henry County at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
